Collapsed sale sends Black Hops Brewing back into administration

Black Hops Brewing has entered administration for the second time in just over two years, after a planned sale of the Gold Coast-founded brewery fell through.

Established in 2015, the brewery’s financial strains were first publicised in April 2024 when Deloitte Turnaround & Restructuring partners David Mansfield and Tim Heenan were appointed voluntary administrators to facilitate a financial restructuring of the business. At the time, the brewery employed a total of approximately 70 staff across its operations, including a brewery and tap rooms in Burleigh Heads, Biggera Waters and East Brisbane.

In May 2024, Black Hops was saved from liquidation when a consortium of existing shareholders and other fans of the brewery stepped in to form a new company and acquire the brewery. The sale agreement represented a new chapter for Black Hops, and in June 2024 Nick Boots (ex-Kegstar and Stone & Wood) was appointed CEO.

Now, the brewery has collapsed for a second time, with Chris Cook and James Robba of national insolvency advisors Worrells appointed administrators of the two companies behind the business – Black Hops and Green Hops Brewing – on Tuesday 21 July.
